@danielnz1 Who determines what is "backwardness?" It seems to be a subjective value judgment. And since when has any civilization been peaceful? There is alway oppression and violence in civilization. The problem is not just religion, it is any organization that supplies a person a ready-made identity. That includes the one that helped you set up your views on "backwardness" and "human rights."

I agree with your critique, but couldn't we argue that the current war is "radical fundamentalism" versus "radical capitalism?" (Then again, capitalism is based on the Protestant work ethic and valuation of "productivity" whoever that is measured. Interestingly, that is coupled with the assumption human activity is selfish in the capitalist dogma.) There are many ideologies other than religion to root out, including nationalism or any other identity-source based on group membership.

That isn't Atheism. How you can get people believing Aliens did it as being Atheist makes no sense at all. Do I think there is intelligent life out there yes most likely since there is here. (the intelligence bit is a bit debatable at times. XD) They however would be under the limits we are under to contact them so no they are not here, and most likely won't be. That is my perspective on them, and also they didn't create us. >.> we evolved >.> like other species here in reality. >.>

danielnz1, i know you're atheist and think religion is leadin people to some really dumb ideas, but there's a site i want ya to read from an atheist source that shows how completely out of hand atheism can get: look up "rael" on the net. personally, i think god exists but only in an extremely immaterial sense as an idea and a connecting interest behind life to pursue nature and meaning. i don't believe god communicates or is transmitted or anything, just that there's order in nature, and ethics.
