A year ago today I underwent open heart surgery.
First we see the sick tricuspid and mitral valves, then we see both after being repaired (new mechanical valve on the mitral valve).

Second half of the video is a duplicate.

  • Today seems an important day for an update. An old friend, who went in for roughly the same surgery (Aortic valve rather than mitral valve) passed away Thursday.

Life is indeed precious - enjoy every moment of it.

  • Fascinating. I had Mitral Valve Stenosis and replaced the valve with a mechanical in 01, I read all the surgical reports but never really knew what had transpired.

  • This is so amazing!

  • @footballmanager221 it's possible, the surgeon could penetrate the left atrium through the fossa ovalis region the right atrium. however, most common way is through the left ventricle for aortic SLV, and atrium for mital valve, since it yields the surgeons with better visibility of the target area.

  • les chirurgiens on du faire une énorme ouverture pour operer au coeur de ce malade!!

  • I observed a mitral valve replacement whilst in india, and the surgeon said he went through the right ventricle in order to replace one of the mitral valves (in the left)- is this common practice or did i understand wrong?!
