Tabby Thomas began recording in 1952 with the release of Midnight is Calling and I' 11 Make the Trip on Hollywood Records in Los Angeles. He is known as a vocalist, songwriter, guitarist and pianist. Tabby Thomas describes his Blues on this cool documentary of the Baton Rouge Blues , I always loved the song Hoodoo Party made famous by Anson and the Rockets , digging deeper i found the orginal song done by Tabby Thomas , this film also has the Legendary Jay Miller who recorded the Best swamp blues ever availible from the 50s !!! also a glimpse of Whisperin Smith who in my book had the low-downest voices ever , lots of cool stuff !!! check out this on Jay ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._D._%22Jay%22_Miller

  • Hi Tabby, thanks to you I have been all over the world, you have my prayers, please contact me just google Betty Lewis

  • He also showed me pictures of all the greats on the walls, I asked about Pinetop and he said there he is at the supper table at somebody's house they had been , I asked if he'd put up a friend of mine named Daryl Davis and I'll be dog-gone he "knew" of him..and he put the picture up..I miss getting around to those places I learned a lot from watching and listening to these artists, Especially DD who showed me some JLLewis licks one day in Potomac,Md.I miss hearing it. Danny O'Donnell

  • In 1988 or so I was at 111 North (St)?(Blvd) in Baton Rouge and I went in to this little place and started talking to a man at the bar and asked if he knew the band , he said yes why, oh i play piano i said..he laughed and said come on up, and up we went ,on a small ladder that went up through the upstairs 'loft" where they were playing, my God it was cramped but man did I hear some good blues that night! Rockin' Tabby Thomas was very nice to me, Criket says "Tabby's Blues Box" is no more. :(

  • I had one of the finest evenings of my life listening to Tabby talk about the history of the blues at Tabby's Juke Joint in Baton Rouge about 7 years ago.

  • Tabby gave me my 1st paid gig in louisianna, with Henry Grey!

not bad for a white boy from Cleethorpes!

    Miss the Blues Box.

    Keep on rockin Tabby..

  • Is he related to Phillip Michael Thomas? His kid looks just like Philip!

  • This is awesome! I haven't seen this documentary in years! To me, it's a classic! It had a huge impact on me, as far as discovering new artists and new kinds of music. Thanks SO MUCH for posting this!
