Apparently they really wanted to sing, but the producer wouldn't let them. Poor guys. Not their fault.

They did it because it was part of thier contract. They were young and signed a music deal without any representation or lawyer present. Their contract stated they had to do that. It's hard to get out of a contract, literally costing thousands or millions, Not to mention they'd have to give up their fame.
