Sin and the Cross - Bible Questions with Michael Pearl - Episode 015

This Weeks Bible Question: Did God turn his back on Jesus on the cross because of the sin that God placed there or for another reason? I ask because in my Bible study I'm still unable to understand why Satan could enter the presence of God but when Jesus hung on the cross God the father could not look upon him because of the sin.

Good job Mike. Additionally, God did not forsake Jesus on the cross. Psalm 22 is the answer to this "problem." The Psalm says that from man's point of view, it seems as if Jesus was forsaken. The last part of Psalm 22 shows God's point of view. "For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from Him; But when He cried to Him, He heard.."

I agree. It was a good video, especially the part about Jesus being our "attorney"...lol But, no, I don't think he really answered the question.

You did not explain directly how Jesus could say he was forsaken of God, or felt forsaken. Was he not declaring this moment as the fulfillment of Psalm 22? I fully agree with your judicial explanation. However, being forsaken (abandoned) is a consequence of shame not guilt. Punishment is the consequence for guilt.

Secondly, you didn't address the other half of the question, which was how can God tolerate Satan in his presence?
