  • La Scala was Callas' " home " for ten years. La Scala had an area known as the Loggione, where Afficionados would destroy anything but the best singers. At La Scala, Callas was referred to as " Souvramon " - not human. The Greatest Soprano Of All Time. It's a done deal, no one can ever change it. Humanity will never hear such magnificense again.

  • Prima donna hell she is the opera the person the part. The greatsest

  • juanito- displaying bilingual prowess, ah?

  • Thank you so much for making this point. I've often thought the same. The La Scala audience, in the 50s, was no joke. I doubt they would have screamed "DIVINA" unless she was absolutely divine. She was. She is. Brava, Callas.

  • It's rather curious when we come across with people who believe THEY have a more refined taste than the La Scala's audience. These people will disapear but this (these) recording(s) will remain as long as the human race exists.

  • I have this live recording. Like others from this period of her career, this live performance suffers from bad sound quality at times. However, every high C, the high D flat, all the high D's and both high E flats are there and she nails everything. I recommend it to anyone who appreciates the great artistry of this incomparable musician. Her studio LUCIA from 1953 EMI is outstanding; sung with the same confidence and passion; mono sound, but very clean and clear.

  • How can anyone dispute the beauty of this singing? It is so darn musical and enchanting! Just listen to how that discerning public immediately responded to her at the end of the aria!

  • Well said!!
