When a big fish is hooked on light gear it must be fought carefully as not to break him off. It takes longer to wear the fish out and results in a very tired fish by the time it is in the net. If you just let go of a worn out fish, it might sink and go belly up and die. It is always good to make sure the fish is ready to swim before sending it away.
