If you're interested in the sheet music (warning, currently not clean looking) please contact me through jimlapbap.com. (Also warning, it's pretty hard, so keep that in mind, too.)

After doing a B-side "I'm All You Can Think About" as a madrigal, inspired by the King's Singers' rendition of "Can't Buy Me Love," I realized one of the most famous TMBG songs could also make an interesting madrigal.

This is quite the hiatus as I'm still working on my dissertation, but I had one day to slam this all together before diving back in to the dissertation. I have about 25 ideas for video I'll be churning after I defend the dissertation.

Typical stuff:

1. I use pitch-correction and transpose the female parts up an octave, the point is the arrangement, not my singing abilities.

2. I did this this in obvious takes, there's a lot of noise that goes on outside the place.

  • As a fan of the original, let me say that I truly loved your version. Ditto the below comments about enunciation. Seems like you're having a little trouble carrying the melody on the high end, though. Are you working the very edge of your vocal range?

  • @FeelFreeToArgue Thanks!

The female parts I record an octave below and transposed up with Melodyne, so that always sounds a little funky.

Another explanation is that in counterpoint like, most of the voices are given much more equal weight, so I wanted to make sure all four voices were clearly heard, so the balance ate up the soprano line now and then.

  • from one who only comments on one video in three thousand, you've done something amazing here. :)

  • i find your covers rather charming. i'll definitely subscribe!

  • This is beautiful. I too have covered this sweet song on this here YOUTUBE.

  • Another great cover! I love it when a cover of a song has better enunciation than the original and I discover the lyrics of a song I already knew for the first time.
