  • In the book, Michael tells him off for whistling and that it wasn't suitable to whistle at ladies. More men nowadays should tell off their creepy, stupid mates who whistle and make comments and women. This imbecile in the book and film says, "all the sheilas like it." NO, not all women like it and the ones who appear to like being treated like dirt and like a piece of meat are confused and actually think it's a compliment. It's never a compliment. Shame they changed to wording for the film.

  • @baraxor Why would Albert's words indicate that? Men/boys can regard women/girls from a sexual perspective, appreciating (or depreciating) their physical beauty. Same happens the other way around. Doesn't mean this is the only perspective by which people can, will, or want to see the opposite sex. Of course adolescents have a narrower range of experiences and are eager to explore their new-found perspective. What happens in this scene doesnt imply Alberts only *wants* to see girls as 'objects'.

  • @FredericaBimble Or perhaps the ones who like it simply aren't intimidated by male sexuality? If you honestly equate being whistled at to being treated like a piece of dirt or meat, I have to say your assessment of normal, healthy desires is pretty sad. And if you honestly think respectful, decent men don't see women as objects of sexual desire, I'd add 'deluded' too. Especially since you seem to have made the absurd equation of 'object of sexual desire' with 'inanimate object'.

  • @hminkema

Disgust would arise if one believes that Albert's words indicate that he viewed women solely or primarily as sexual objects, whose ultimate worth is based on venereal utility. I prefer to think that by the end of the story his experiences would lead him to view women in a better light, and that he would be a bit ashamed of his previous feelings about them.

  • @TudorRose85 Sorry, but Edith never 'got there'. If you watch the interviews on the DVD, you will find that Edith is even larger now then she was then, and still not in the same 'beauty league' as the other girls. Yet she appears a happy and happily married person, and makes healthy jokes about her own kind of beauty ('My hubby fell in love with the other girls, but he ended up with me!'). Kudos to her!

  • @LadyLizzCullen24 What is 'disgusting' about young men watching girls and fantasising about their physical beauty? It is what makes the world go round. It is why girls get married. It is harmless by itself, and even necessary for mankind to stay in existence. Besides, it is the other way around too: girls look at boys and fantisize about - and discuss - their physical qualities too. Is that 'disgusting'? Only in a prudish Victorian mind.

  • Women these days talk about men like this too. The women in the film were innocent but not so much these days, a lot of women are like these guys now.

  • @LadyLizzCullen24 In the story, these men were about eighteen; not much older than the senior girls in the school. While the thoughts going between them may have been 'coarse' toward the girls, both of them were from different backgrounds - one wealthy, one poor. One of the points made in the story was that despite their differences, both worked together with the aim to save the girls who went missing. You might enjoy seeing the complete film, rather than just a short YT clip :)

  • Those men r digusting , Those girls r innocent and they look much younger then those men

  • @BoNkErZchloe22 no it's not

  • Is this the start?
