The countryside around Van Vieng is beautiful. But the town is full of tourists behaving like idiots who show no respect for Laos culture and think because they're white they can behave anyway they like. Fortunately most of these "tourists" go from a "full moon party" in Thailand straight to Van Vieng then go back again. That's their cultural experience of Laos! If you want the real Lao experience and you like drinking, meet up with some locals and drink rice wine with them they are so friendly

I`m Klaus, 50 years old. I also don´t like drugs. I also don`t like moralists like you.

In October I was in Vang Vieng and asked myself the same like you. But the other side is, that I met a beautiful little family, Tik, Beh and their little daughter. They where able to found a small nice restaurant. I wish them all the best. Such "fucking reporters" are also responsible of this.
