Actually people in the GDR were demanding Socialism and Democracy. I have a friend who used to live in East Germany and participated in the protests. However, a counter-revolution followed. Thats that point.

Democracy is the answer, but TRUE democracy does not work in a stalinist communist country ruled by dictatorship nor does it work in Capitalism such as America. Democracy gives power to the poor and capitalists have a problem with this. A true government is one that is ruled by the people, a government has to be afriad of the people and not the other way around. Socialist democracies live most famously in scandinavian countries such as Sweden and they are the way to go.

Even if socialism does work, there is no way the western world would ever try to implement it given the monumental fuck up the Eastern bloc made of it.
Face it, socialism is dead (though some of its ideals are noble)
