The SKA will be a revolutionary radio telescope made of thousands of receivers linked together. The total collecting area of all the receivers combined will be approximately one square kilometre, making the SKA the largest and most sensitive radio telescope ever built. The actual area of the SKA will far exceed a square kilometre - with receivers extending more than 3,000 km from a central core region, across the whole of Australia New Zealand or Southern Africa.
