President John F. Kennedy - February 1961

February 3, 1961 - Following his meeting with Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare Abraham Ribicoff, President Kennedy orders that money and surplus food totaling $4 million be provided to aid Cuban refugees in the U.S. in fiscal 1961.

February 4, 1961 - President and Mrs. Kennedy greet their children who arrive from Florida on the Kennedy Family airplane, the Caroline.

February 8, 1961 - President and Mrs. Kennedy host a reception for the Diplomatic Corps.

February 12, 1961 - President Kennedy attends Mass at the Middleburg Community Center, Middleburg, Virginia.

February 20, 1961 - Meeting and luncheon at the White House with Prime Minister John Diefenbaker of Canada. In a joint statement after the discussions, President Kennedy announces that his first foreign trip will be to Ottawa, Canada in June.

February 21, 1961 - After meeting with Paul Henri Spaak, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, President Kennedy presents him with the Medal of Freedom.

February 22, 1961 Meeting with Dean Rusk and with Ambassador to Germany Walter Dowling and Ambassador to the Soviet Union Llewellyn Thompson before their respective departures to return to their posts.
