"in the general population in Zim that the MDC in power will mean Britain ruling by proxy, or at least Tsvangirai having his hand guided by downing street.MDC needs to define itself as a Zimbabwean party with no vested foreign interests, particularly those of the ex-power"

Amen. That's my only complaint with the MDC. I'm worried about the Western and whenwe corporate interests that seem to be invested in it. MDC needs to return to its multiracial social democrat trade unionist roots.

"Lybia, the most advanced has 0.84, which is way less than any western country."

1) The 0.9 section is Very High. By your standards 90% of the countries on the list are not "flourishing" or "succeeding", including some European ones. Only 31 countries out ~200 are 0.9 or above. Anything above 0.6 is decent.
2) GDP per capita is also important. Equatorial Guinea has a GDP per capita of ~$40,000. That's higher than the US's GDP per capita.

Yes, 0.9 is high. But so "flourishing and succeeding" sounds pretty strong, does not it? That's why I said define what you mean by "flourishing and succeeding". Yes, I agree that African countries you mentioned are higher on HDI than Ukraine, Georgia, Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria and Russia. But I would not consider listed European countries neither as "western" nor as flourishing and succeeding.

Anyways, these difference are semantic; I think we are on the same foot here.

Sure, but 0.6 fits that definition as well. Flourishing doesn't necessarily mean fully industrialized.

Neither is Japan or Israel. Not all Western countries are exactly flourishing right now either. Notably the US, Britain and Iceland.

"Define what you mean by "flourished and succeeded"

Either high GDP, large economy or high on the HDI list.

"None of the countries you mentioned has a Human Development Index above 0.9."

Some of those countries are high on the UN HDI list.

Libya, Seychelles and Mauritius are above some European or white countries like Ukraine, Georgia, Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria and Russia.

Also, some of the other black countries are approaching 0.9 on the list. Such as Barbados, Cuba (large black population), Bahamas, Trinidad and Mauritius. There are plenty of European/white and Asian countries lower on the list.
