Spot Barnett. Vernon Spot Barnetts 50-plus year career is truly a San Antonio legend. A 1950s big band leader across the country, Spot then became the bandleader for Ike & Tina Turner in the 1960s. In the 1970s he toured extensively with Blues Legend Bobby Bland and performed with Ray Charles & James Brown. He is widely credited as discovering Beatles era San Antonio rock legend Doug Sahm. Out of gratitude to Barnett, Sahm, throughout his career, spread the gospel of Spot around the globe by calling him the King of the East Side & Godfather of San Antonio Blues.
