This game did the Final Fantasy 7 Universe really well. We got to see how cool Zack was how Cloud was before he was so distant from everyone, Sephiroth before he lost his mind and came into contact with his mother and a lot of other neat things about Shinra, Soldier and the setting we never would have known otherwise.

I liked Sephiroth a bit prior to this game, but I found myself almost not wanting to do the Nibelheim incident because I knew that was the end for Hero Sephiroth.

Y'know, despite all the praise Sephiroth gets in Final Fantasy VII, I never really thought he was "all that". In Crisis Core, though, I'll admit: he's pretty dang cool. He's a heck of a lot more interesting as a character in Crisis Core than he is in Final Fantasy VII.
