At a press conference today, Minnesota legislative GOP leaders reacted to a DFL budget plan that adopts 85% of Governor Tim Pawlenty's proposed cuts. The proposal also adds a modest tax increase on taxpayers whose income, after deductions and credits, is over $200,000 per year.
This additional revenue - raised from a group of taxpayers who currently pay porportionlly less in state taxes than middle income taxpayers - would stave off greater home and business property tax increases stemming from steeper cuts to local communities and schools.
When asked for a reaction, Senate Minority leader Dave Senjem rejected compromise from Pawlenty's position.
