Val Kilmer was brought up as a Christian Scientist, still is a Christian Scientist and he took a year out of film making to do 2nd or 1st reader at his church! :D

Blasphemy? Because she rejected the myth of hell, which an early Christian faction utterly invented, the faction which wiped out all the others and became the so called universal Christian Church. Look to the old testament, from whose teachings Jesus sprang, and find me where there is any such venue, other than Sheol, where EVERYONE went, even the prophet Samuel, per the story of the woman of Endor, who conjures him UPWARD from death, which must give many so called Christians a lot to explain!

Astonishing stuff. I grew up in Christian Science, and have seldom heard a more cogent distillation of her teachings. BTW, and few seem to know this, these teachings are immensely influenced by the Bhagavad Gita, and when Kilmer as twain says she taught all earthly woes are but an illusion, which she called in her writings "error", she was in fact but echoing what the ancient Hindus called "Maya"...the world illusion...which, if pierced, brought what the Buddha called "waking up" to THE REAL!

I want to add -- just to be helpful re. Kilmer's potential rewrites of this play: The anachronisms were very distracting -- and took the audience out of the moment. No one wants to hear Mark Twain mention Betty White or the local Marriott Hotel.

Just saw the play in Dallas; great acting, terrible writing. The script is a mess. Very forced and dubious connection between Eddy and Twain -- and Kilmer ignored and/or distorted Twain's radical satirizing and criticism of hypocrisy, esp Christians. I think Twain is spinning in his grave at Kilmer's distortion of his views.

You have eyes and yet don't see and you have ears and yet don't hear. That is because you are ignorant. Sorry to inform you of this truth

I'm a student of Christian Science, and I'm not feeling certain that this clip, showing Twain's side of the story, helps the cause of Christian Science. I'm hoping that when the Eddy side of it is ready, we'll see the practicality and effectiveness of what she taught about the nature of God.
