Don marks the motor bearings for Atlantic Shore Line Steeplecab locomotive #100. They are getting ready to be babbited. Babbit is a soft metal that traps any grit and prevents it from ruining the bearing.

This is a fascinating series by Phil Morse. The best way to find it is search for "asl 100 a1" then "asl 100 a2" etc. There are 23 parts to it - so get a good cup of coffee and settle in! The time it takes is well worth it.
