Dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) is converted into the liquid phase. Dry ice is placed into a high-pressure plastic container and sealed. The resulting pressure created by the sublimation of the dry ice increases the pressure of the system and forces carbon dioxide into the liquid phase.

Upon opening the container and reducing the pressure, the liquid carbon dioxide rapidly converts back to the solid phase.

  • this might sound stupid, but i have a quick question...

how does something turn liquid when u increase pressure?

when pressure is increased, molecules have a smaller space to move around and thus become solid right?

b/c i thought that when you put gas in a high pressure area, they particles come together and form a liquid.

can you please explain this to me

    :)

  • You are correct that when you put gas in a high pressure area that it tends to form liquids. However, dry ice is a solid. If you look at a phase diagram for CO2, at room temperature, when you increase the pressure CO2 will melt into the liquid phase instead of subliming and going into gas phase.

  • PLEASE DONT READ THIS. JUST STOP READING NOW THE CURIOSITY CAN HOLD OFF MAN. "This is so stupid... But i love my mom deeply... And i don't want to take any chances. Sorry. If you do not copy and paste this onto 10 videos your mom will die in 4 hours

  • easy AMaka56, pression and heat are like simbilings*

    * More pression more heat, they're are both directly proporcional so if you increase one other increase too.

So more pression more heat than u make it liquidfy by pression :D sry for my crap english

  • Can you tell me where to get a container or capped tube like the one you used. Thanks

  • ooooo

    i get it now

    thank you so much

    :D
