Tony T here from Gamblers Television covering the NFL "Vegas Style" all season long.

The Philadelphia Eagles finished the 2007 season with an 8-8 record. Head coach Andy Reid faced a turbulent training camp in 2007 as his sons faced jail time. The Eagles are hoping for a healthy Donovan McNabb as he has missed 15 games over the past 3 seasons. Oddsmakers have set the Philadelphia Eagles regular season win projected total at 8 ½ wins.

Schedule:

The Eagles play in the NFC East and that means two games with Dallas, NY Giants and Washington. The NFC East plays the NFC West and AFC North and that means a tough road game at Seattle. They do get a little unlikely traveling to the weaker teams in the AFC North in Baltimore and Cincinnati while hosting Pittsburgh and Cleveland. You want to host the weaker teams because it makes it easier for wins. As the last place team in the NFC East last season they face the other last place teams from the NFC and it's a road game at Chicago and a home game against Atlanta.

Offense:

Let's begin with the Eagles quarterback. Donovan McNabb's shoulder is fine as he experienced shoulder tendonitis during the teams OTA's and was shut down. Though the veteran has lost some mobility after his knee surgery he did look pretty good at the end of least season and started to regain some of it. Brian Westbrook is coming off another spectacular season at running back and backup Correll Buckhalter got himself in great shape to open camp. Wesbrook gained over 2000 receiving and rushing yards combined last season. The Eagles tried to land a big name in the offseason at wideout but failed to make deals for Randy Moss or Larry Fitzgerald. DeSean Jackson was drafted out of Cal in the second round and will make an impact on the field and in the return game. Kevin Curtis is coming off a career year with 77 receptions and over 1100 yards receiving last year.

Defense:

A huge addition was added for defensive coordinator Jim Johnson as cornerback Assante Samuel was acquired through free agency. With the return of Shelden Brown and Lito Shepard it gives the Eagles weapons when rushing the quarterback. Shepard is a bit annoyed that Samuel was brought over as a starter to start in his position. So it looks like Lito may start on the right side. All 3 might be on the field over 50% of the time according to defensive coordinator Jim Johnson. Defensive end Chris Clemons was signed from the Raiders and is coming off year where he registered 8 sacks and will be a weapon in the pass rush. Trent Cole is coming off a Pro Bowl season on the D line and registered 12 ½ sacks last season. Jevon Kearse left the Eagles and appeared to be declining in recent years. The Eagles linebackers are young and very talented.

And now to my Selection:

In Andy Reid's tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles his teams missed out on the playoffs only on two occasions. He bounced back nicely after missing the postseason while posting regular season records of 11-5 and 10-6. Jim Johnson is the best defensive mind in the NFC and the Eagles loaded him up with weapons. With Washington and the NY Giants declining a bit in the division the Eagles will rise. Finishing last place in the NFC East last season means they face the two last place teams from the NFC South and NFC North this season. David Akers is among the best kickers in football. The Eagles lost 4 games by 3 points or less last season but this improved squad would have turned most of those losses to W's.

Play the Philadelphia Eagles over 8 1/1 wins for the 2008 season.

Selection: Play Philadelphia Eagles over 8 ½ wins in 2008 Regular Season.

  • sot of, depends on if the make the playoffs if they do then ya.

  • This year not really... I'd say 2004 was their best year of course since they went to the superbowl. But this year they lost too many games already. It will be a miracle if they manage to make their way to the playoffs... it starts with a must-win game on sunday against the giants who are simply the best team in the NFL right now.

  • yea big game tonite

  • yea thats the key because both teams are solid offensively but their defense is much better usually.

  • yea i think they have a good chance too... if their defense plays good i think theyll win

  • theyre lookin mighty good..if they beat the giants this sun they'll show their true capabilities
