Slso,TheNilvarg,Warships have the Right to defend themselves with deadly force. Those machine guns that you see mounted are not there for display. If you get too close, they will warn you to stand clear & if you do not, WILL open fire upon you. It's more reasonable to sheer off than to have your heirs & assigns sue the Navy for you.
@TheNilvarg Yes,there are. Most harbors have 1,000' exclusion zones around anchorages where you had better have a good reason for being there. There is no "Rule of Gross Tonnage" but if you are a 5,000 lb ski boat & are downboun with the legal Right of Way & you come upon USS Abraham Lincoln returning to port, you give them the Right of Way.It's easier for YOU to get out of their way,& they must stay in the channel deep enough for their draft.
Generally it is illegal to interfere with a commercial ship of any kind weather it is a ship or a fishing vessel. They have the right of way over any pleasure craft because in the case of ships they cannot stop or turn on a dime and in the case of fishing vessels it is against the law to interfere with their with their fishing gear. So the best advice is if you see or come across any commercial vessel try to stay out of their way as much as possible because they have work to do and deadlines.

Are there regulations like the FAA ones involving air travel, that make it illegal to be within a certain range of a giant ship?
