Benny Meroff's "Smiling Skies" recorded for OKeh on 9 December 1928 wasn't Wild Bill Davison's first recording, but it was the first on which he played a clear solo. Early as it may have been (Bill was only 23) his sound was already unmistakable and original "Wild Bill", and he played in the same manner, albeit with much more feeling and ease, 50 years later when the second tune, "After You've Gone" was recorded by Bill with Ted Easton's Jazz Band in the New Orleans Jazz Club in The Hague, Holland. Ted Easton was drummer and leader and he and Bill do the talking. Flip Robers is on rombone, Jan Molegraaf clarinet, Frits van't Hoff Banjo and I am very proud to say that I played the tuba here.
