In the Persuasive Technology lab at Stanford, we're looking at videos that communicate persuasive messages of peace. This stop-motion animation emulates the narrative of a computer animated Zune ad, found here: http://www.techforpeace.org/?p=53

Try creating your own video that follows this model: two opposing characters (or groups, or countries) come into conflict then, through a change in perspective (this is where you need to be creative) are able to make peace.

Also, think about what might inspire commentary/engagement from individuals in other parts of the world. Does your video pose a question? Offer a contestable solution? Confront a universal issue?

Here are a few questions you might include with your video to illicit comments:
*What is the message of the video?
*How does the video relate to peace?
*How could you change the video so that it conveyed a more persuasive message of peace?
*How is this story (video) relevant to your own life?

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at ben@techforpeace.org.

  • The pivotal moment is when the figures divide the map and take sides. Without the map they realize they share the same space!

  • I really like the video. At the beginning they are friends, e.g. they help each other to get out of the bag and climb. But as soon as there are borders (or possession) they start fighting...

The music fits the video really well.

  • Entertaining and provocative, this video conveys lots of human emotion and psychology with simple toys. At the end, the map vanishes and the landscape is wiped clean -- this gets you thinking.
