Speed did not matter. Cost mattered. Ability to hang a few sheets, then move things around the garage to access another area mattered. The rental sheetrock lifts around here only go up 8 feet. I used Unistrut, EMT and garage door parts to build the lift onto my small scaffold frame. All of the parts I had already. Unistrut is a very handy thing to have around.

  • @marzarza: Exactly! That is one of the major reasons.

¡Exactamente! Ése es una de las razones principales.

  • I like this, take your time.

  • I would be interested in seeing plans available for this.

  • @ben1ben2ben1 no, just 1 layer of 1/2" rock on the ceiling. I put 5/8" for fire code all the way up to the rafters [cathedral ceiling inside] on the wall between the house & garage.

The joint compound applied after taping is probably close to 1/16" thick over the butt joints. Then feathered with a 12" wide joint knife. Doesn't have to be 100% pretty.... Inside I staggered the joints to make no X 's in the taping.

  • @d455ave Ok sorry i didnt relies it was a garage, Just first coat?

  • @ben1ben2ben1 Not sure why.... I taped the long (tapered) edges first. Then went back for the but joints. No cracks yet, it's over 2 years now. It's never been below 40 degrees in the garage, even before I got the heat hooked up last winter.

  • @d455ave Whats with the triple but joints? Thats going to crack!

  • There are no plans, as yet. I could describe the various parts.

  • I'd never rent a lift. Buying 14'+ extensions are less than $200 on E-Bay. Much easier to move, load, and lift as well.
