This is my 1st home made rocket stove from a 20 lb. propane tank. This video is to show first boil time test for 3 different amounts of water.

  • using a propane 20 is a bad idea because it only takes one idiot to follow you wrong, did I miss whether you insulated the tank? The tank edges need to be insulated; sand works.

  • @fallguy100000 There are idiots everywhere. Live Life At Your OWN RISK.

Yes I did insulate the tank but might have skipped over it in the video. I used pearlelite, it was light and works ok. if I was going to make a permanent ricket stove like this I would use sand. I think it would work better and is alot cheaper.

  • About reducing the gap above the heat riser. If I remember correctly, you're using 4" EMT, so your area is about 12.5 sq. inches (pi r sq. = 3.1416 x 4 = 12.5). Your gap area should be no less than that, to not restrict the flow. Gap height = desired gap area / circumference. At a 4" diameter this neatly works out to a 1" gap. (12.5 area / circumference (pi x d) 12.5). Great work by the way!!

  • I have already made a shroud and will test it today. I also picked up some more used tanks today and am working on a new stove project and it will me more like the grover rocket stove.

  • "Boiling" water is about a Temperature (212F or 100C), not a physical action so when you saw bubbles at the bottom of the large pot, you had boiling water.

    Cheers :)

  • haha I remember that, like all the roads turned to skating rinks lol

  • I just finished my 40lbs. tank rocket stove and got about the same results as yours did. one thing that I find works good is using vertical sheet metal for your cook top. it acts also as a wind screen between stovepipe and pot.

I have also posted a video of mine at work

  • I would defiantly utilize a flame collar, but looks great!!
