a beautiful day on ben nevis which we used up within the shadows of no.2 gully...(sorry there is no sound on this clip)

oh i shudder....no helmets (the foolishness of it, dont tell the mcofs)

we did turn back as we didnt know what was ahead and we had no rope with us and ended up doing no.3 gully instead

  • nice video btw! looks good

  • hey thanks....though i must confess i had to google up on what "btw" meant- wasnt sure if it was a climbing term i hadnt heard of haha.......i only just learnt what "lol" meant last year......but thanks again that was kind of you you to comment btw (did i use it right?)

  • When was this? Looks a bit lean and scary for the grade I/II. Hoping to tick this route early January myself.

    Cheers

  • sorry i took time in getting back but it been christmas woo hooooo...em this clip was taken in january, and yes it was really skimpy and quite steep.even in these conditions it felt reasonable to solo but we had no helmets with us so we turned back as there was a lot of ice coming down.

  • Nice video great fun with no ropes, you get more fear and adrenaline into your climb. Thats what climbing is all about.

  • yup i would agree it isnt hard. we actually bailed on that day as we were really just having a play but went back a few weeks later. there was more snow which turned this section on the video into a normal grade 2 snow slope..haha ....on the day in question (on video)it was a little more intimidating.

sorry i forgot in my ramblings to answer the question- no i wouldnt rope up on an easy scramble but i would rope up on the harder parts of observatory/tower ridge etc.

    thanks for commenting

  • ye u used it right, i did ben nevis but fell and twisted my ankle bout 2/3 of way up and twisted my ankle

  • me and my mate did it with no ropes as well, it just isnt hard. would you rope up on an easy scramble?

  • ermmmm - why no ropes with you? Is that not poor preparation or were you just scouting part of the route? Just curious

  • good call
