  • when he left office, gas was like $1.50. and today...

  • @thid1 not as bad as the one we have now.

  • @photopro2008 Well, which is he?

  • @Playboysmurf1 I'm not optimistic. We Americans are a shortsighted lot. I'm old enough to remember the 1973 oil crisis, then the 1979 oil crisis. President Carter started us doing research in synthetic fuels. Reagan came in and canceled it, and we went back to our gas-guzzling ways. Exxon Valdez came and went with no change. A year from now, Americans won't even be able to spell BP, and they'll be back to driving SUVs. It's our birthright, after all. Who cares if soldiers have to die for oil.

  • @DrSamba1 Hopefully the damage close to home changes some American mindsets, and they can make personal choices. Rather than waiting for a government that will lead them, people need to think and change their behaviors. My original statement was hoping that the money raised from this short term boost in cash could be spent on a long term solution to the greater problem.

  • @Playboysmurf1 Ah, I misunderstood your original statement. Yes, Americans only care about environmental damage when it's close to home. Instead of properly recycling old TVs and electronics, we ship them out to dumps in China where the workers are poisoned by the toxic materials. We can only hope that the spill in the Gulf will awaken Americans to the problem, but instead they will just criticize Obama for trying to "politicize" it. Another Republican will come in and all will be forgotten.

  • @DrSamba1 No different! If Americans want oil they should dirty their own country in the process. Shell has destroyed countless human lives in the Niger Delta but Americans are happy to fill up there, It is clear that the American people are only happy if this type of problem happens outside of the USA and out of sight. And It is sad that the richest country on earth does not use its vast wealth to create sustainable energy that could benefit the entire earth.

  • @photopro2008 Maybe it takes a huge oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico to get it through the Conservative's skulls

  • @Playboysmurf1 How do you feel about this now?

  • God bless George W. Bush - He's a good man, good republican.
