The world's only steam clock, powered by steam from underground pipes that supply steam to heat many downtown buildings. The clock sounds its whistles every quarter-hour. It was built by horologist Raymond Saunders in 1977 based on an 1875 design.

  • this neighbourhood in the late 1800's was a very seedy area it was littered with whorehouses(brothels) , saloons and gambling lol sounds like fun

  • You can see this clock in The NeverEnding Story during the scenes in the city.

  • Cool vid! This is only a few blocks from my home and I don't remember hearing those sounds! :-)

  • Yup!!! I can't believe I was able to see both! It was awesome seeing the one in Otaru!

  • those whistles sound like crap. they need tuned up and another 50 psi behind them.

  • Of this particuluar steam clock design, there are two: One in Vancouver (BC, Canada) and the other in Otaru (Hokkaido, Japan). They are identical.
