Here's another story I found "lost" on 3/4" tape ... and fun.

Shot sometime in 1974-1975, Bill Walton, the star center of the Portland Trailblazers, had just suffered a season-ending foot injury. The national media was clammering for an interview .. on a Saturday morning.

I got the call from home. Sport Director Ted Dawson had scored an exclusive interview and wanted me to shoot it. Apparently Walton trusted Ted and I to do a fair story.

We went to his home on the Willamette river south of Portland. I remember it because the custom house had been built to Bill Walton scale and I felt so small. I remember his beautiful German Shephards which you see in the film.

We got back to the station before noon. I had maybe 20 minutes to edit the piece when the film was developed. We microwaved it to CBS Sports which ran the piece over and over again all day and night.

  • love Bill Walton. Is son is far less intresting which reflects our society's decline.

  • dude's a one man woodstock.

  • bill walton is the fucking man.

  • It appears this report ran on Sunday, February 23, 1975. Walton had the cast put on the previous day.

  • lmao, what a stoner.

  • @91thebossman I know, but I meant for the comparison to show that Oden will go to some powerhouse team (Lakers) as Walton sustained an injury also and went to another powerhouse team (in this case, the Celtics)

  • @yao11ming4mvp walton was on the celtics not lakers

  • @mediabench yeah, it's on nixon street right, he is SOOO high!!!

  • either he's stoned or its just his stutter. figuring he had a stutter for his entire career i'm guessing its just that. after he retired he learned to get rid of his stutter.

  • @jrzy49 Yessir. The comparisons are amazing, both were highly touted college centers and both drafted by the same organizations...you know that this means that Greg Oden will eventually sign with the Lakers and team up with a great group of ball players in Los Angeles. History repeats itself.
