Dr. Umar Abdullah-Johnson, a passionate and committed Pan-Afrikan activist, reflects on his life and shares his perspectives on various political, psychological, and philosophical issues. This interview was conducted by Bro. Omar Imhotep on the morning of 1-28-12 subsequent to days of consistent speaking engagements by Dr. Johnson, and therefore perhaps captures a rare glimpse of a more laid-back "Dr. Umar," which he said he likes to be called; he was very gracious to grant this interview and it was very cool to try to put this great Clinical Psychologist "on the couch" and to explore the mind of Dr. Umar.

  • @hotey125467 wow...just like a typical woman....he gave a very legitimate reason why he's not married....he didnt say..."oh i just havent yet", he gave you a reason....

your response sounds like its based off of frustrated emotion.....

youre like 'fuck his reason, men dont ever wanna get married!!!"

    women, i swear......smh...

  • i can relate...me and my cousin are the only pan africanists in our family...

  • Love this brother! Yes, he's very humble and passionate about his work. I spoke with him when he came to Memphis about home education. He was very encouraging. His lectures were amazing!

  • That is one beautiful black man!

  • I'm hurt, I live in Athens & I tell people about Dr. Johnson all the time how did I not know he was coming?

  • Its interesting to hear him just talk relaxed & bot lecturing.

  • Great interview. Thanks for sharing!

  • @hotey125467 I agree with much of what you say. I basically felt that same way, but might I add that life in reality is much different than how we would like to see it play out. It's his story-his path. I liked the sincerity in his eyes when he spoke about it. It can't be easy to open up in such a way about such a private issue. It's easy for us to view it but to be up there with your life as the topic of discussion is quite bold. That said--part of nation building is marriage. Peace Sis! LOL.

  • I agree with so much of what Dr. Umar said, but as a woman, I thinks he needs to examine his hesitation to marry. A woman who has kids with a man is already bonded to that man; so to try and shield her from the pain of his life direction by not marrying her is not possible. He has made a place in her life, given her a family, and now says he has a dilemma in marrying her??? I so admired the way Malcolm X treated his wife, in private and public, With honor, respect, and protection..
