Ignite at Docklands!
Based on a 250-year-old experimental musical instrument, the Pyrophone Juggernaut is the worlds largest hand-operated multi-octave fire organ.
And it is rather big. Ten metres high and 12 metres wide, spewing fire into the air as it produces its haunting music. Deep growls, atavistic moans, and even choral sounding timbres are coaxed from this creature by a team of percussive performers.
The Pyrophone Juggernaut is fuelled by fire, and is made from stainless steel, copper and aluminium industrial salvage.
About the artist :
Steve Langton spent his childhood in India, where virtuoso busking beggars, tombs, shrines and devotional singing were a part of his life. Today, sound is the guiding element in most of Langtons work, including his Sound Playground, a portable musical playground for collaboration and creativity.
Langton now spends his time creating playable park instruments, permanent vandal resistant public sound installations and inventing new acoustic instruments. Steve has created the Pyrophone Juggernaut for Ignite.
