my 3yo filly, Ellen Vannin. She's a purebred thoroughbred, who recently retired from racing in October. Her sire is Tagula, and she's out of the mare Felin Special. Ellen won one race over 6f at Brighton, where she easily beat colts & geldings, to finish infront by a length and a half. It was the first time I lead up a winner =D

I know the quality kinda sucks... as does my attempt at lunging her lol. I'm still learning to lunge though, and Ellen is a bit fresh, and high strung. This was her being well behaved!! I welcome any tips to help either me or her improve... just please dont be too critical. Like I said, I'm still learning, as is she.

Also. I hate my voice. It needs to just disappear =/

  • Alrighty, now, I'm no expert, and I've never gotten to work with a racing TB, but with lunging, you want to make sure and work them both ways. I generally start out in one direction at the walk, move'em up to a trot, then to a canter before taking them back down through their paces, turning them around, and doing the same the other way. However if the horse I'm lunging is feeling fresh I generally let them canter as much as they want both ways, but I try not to let them buck. Good luck!

  • @CreatureofTheWood Thanks for the advice hun! I did, and always do, lunge her both directions, I just didnt have any good footage going the other way lol, so I cut it out. The original recording is a good 45 mins long (it includes me getting her ready & taking her to the school). But I'll keep all that stuff in mind ^^

  • shes lovely and seriously GOOD on the lunge compared to the OTTBs i've worked with. you're doing awesome with her plio! Most of the OTTBs i've trained, including this nut job im working with now, are bucking and rearing like hell on the lunge.

  • She's so pretty. I know nothing about lunging horses. Everything I do around horses is completely my own instict. But I can tell she's a fantastic horse. I'm jealous that you get to handle her, even if she's high strung.
