  • TROLL X 2!

  • The 57 was better than I would have expected, not ideal but I was expecting to sound much worse. A bit aggressive in the upper mids but the most workable of the three IMHO. The MD421 didn't really work for her IMO, not sure what about it I don't like but it might sound kind of thin?

The RE20 was a bit murky sounding, didn't fit her voice that well in my opinion.

Loved this set of shootouts, moving on to acoustic guitar!

  • Did you use any kind of pop screen during the recordings?

  • @MastersfortheMaster All of the RE20's that I have used, even if about a week old, do not sound like it has any bass, on these mics, you need alot of processing... Not necessarily EQ, but compressing and LOTS OF GAIN... Gain is much different than Phantom Power... RE20's require anywhere from +48db to +70 db Gain in order to properly work...

  • I think the 421 did the best with her voice. It had less harshness in the upper mids than the 57, and the highs were cleaner than the re20. Also, the extra bass provided by the re20 gave her voice too much weight. Beautiful performance no matter which microphone was used.

  • RE-20

  • some time the cheapest mics are some time the best or natural sounding Mics

  • RE20

  • that is some really good singing, respect.

  • The SM57 sounds the most natural and pleasing with no extra hype to my ears.
