Random. Miss Teen 2007 South Carolina - Analog Auto-Tuning with Tsugaru Shamisen (Japanese Lute)

Not that I'm the first to have had this idea (check out Spastic Ink), but in this video I did my best to match the organic melodic curve of our glib young lady's voice and assign notes to her words that worked within the harmonic confines of the background music! Lately, I've been devoting way too much time to learning (with meticulousness) the awesome Gregory Brothers' Auto-Tune the News episodes note-for-note on my 3-stringed fretless Tsugaru shamisen. In doing so, I got inspired by the implications of what they were doing: extrapolating melodies from the natural pitch arch of the auto-tuned character's speech, and then composing around these many times awkward (but awesome, of course) rhythms and melodies. They probably preserve many of the natural originally spoken rhythms, too, even though everything is quantized. What I thought, though, was what if I did the same thing without quantizing the speaker so that the rhythms of their speech were allowed to be irregular and fall outside of the bar lines? What if I wrote a melody that, as much as possible, matched and accentuated the natural "melody" of the speech?! Anyway, this is how I spent today 'cause that's just the way it is.
