I sit beside the fire and think: A poem from J.R.R Tolkien

"I sit beside the fire and think
I sit beside the fire and think
Of all that I have seen
Of meadow flowers and butterflies
In summers that have been

Of yellow leaves and gossamer
In autumns that there were
With morning mist and silver sun
And wind upon my hair

I sit beside the fire and think
Of how the world will be
When winter comes without a spring
That I shall ever see

For still there are so many things
That I have never seen
In every wood in every spring
Thjere is a different green

I sit beside the fire and think
Of people long ago
And people that will see a world
That I shall never know

But all the while I sit and think
Of times there were before
I listen for returming feet
And voices at the door"
--J.R.R. Tolkien

  • @MotherReiver Thanks Mother!!! I just finished a poem of my own and sent it to Pappy. He's gonna turn it into a video for us this week. I can hardly wait to see what he does with it! :)

  • THANKS PAPPY!!! You're writing! How exciting! Hope you'll have something great to share when the time comes!

  • i LOVE this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you so so much!!!! Tolkien also lived in the same area i come from in Birmingham, UK :) His house was literally down the road from my mums house lol

  • @Helenhealer THANKS, HELEN!!! Wow! Tolkien was your neighbor?! That is very cool! I recall an article I read that compared Frodo's nightmare of the goblins destroying Hobbiton villiage with what Tolkien witnessed the industrial revolution having done to change the character England. He was a WWI veteran. He was an amazing man.
