I'm the guitarist for a band called Action Camp if you want to check us out.

We (Action Camp) did a whole Death from Above 1979 tribute set earlier this year. You can watch it here: http://vimeo.com/11145109

The bass I'm using is a standard Squier Bronco Bass, but I swapped out the pot and the pickup is a Dimarzio Super Distortion guitar pickup. It's tuned down 1 step to DGCF (like DFA1979). The scrape intro is correct but it's a short scale bass so the harmonics wouldn't be the same as a full scale Rickenbacker bass.

  • Is it D tuning?!

  • @mascagao Yes, the whole bass down 1 step to D G C F

  • do you remember the settings of the big muff??

  • @Guimo3D The muff only has one knob that really does a whole lot and that's the gain. The other two are just fine tuning. You just have to experiment with the amp and pedal settings together. Also the bass is a short scale with super thick strings (114-80, something like that) and a Super Distortion guitar pick up.

You also can never discount the tone of the player. So much tone comes from your fingers and how you attack the strings.

  • @squareversesine Sorry for not reading the description man. But what does the SD sound like without distortion? Is it any good? Would you mind putting up a little demo? I'd really like to try this on a bronco of my own. Thanks!

  • @CCGuitarGod It doesn't, I pretty much only play it with distortion :). The key is that the bass is really tinny, closer to a guitar but the thick strings will naturally sound thicker and react different to distortion.

  • I'm amazed at all the people asking for tabs. He is standing still and playing it right in front of you, people. You can watch the video as many times as you want, rewind it, etc. He has dot inlays. He tells you the tuning in the description. If you can't figure out how to play it from this, then you have a problem, and you would really benefit from forcing yourself to figure it out by watching him.

  • I was able to get the tone that JFK gets by running 2 outputs out of my bass 1 of them went into a fender full stack guitar amp with a 200 watt crate head with built in distortion.. I ran most of the high and mid end through this with the gain cranked to full. I ran the second output into a GK 300 watt head with 2 4x10 cabs and I ran them at a slightly lower volume than the guitar stack but i ran them clean. The result was a very clean and loud distortion like JFKs with a lot of kick. I like

  • Could you post a tab? please? lol

  • @squareversesine this is the shit man

  • looks like you put a guitar pick up on that bass

check out the band tweak bird for some dirty fun
