In case none of you has noticed, CA is broke. We can't meet our obligations now so how in the world are we going to come up with 45 Billion for "high" speed rail? We don't have the money. We are in terrible debt now. Our credit rating sucks. We are laying off teachers and other workers. Just where are we going to get this money? If High Speed Rail made sense, it would get private funding but it doesn't make sense so Let's not waste the money.

If they can keep the TSA out of this it will be a moderate success at the very least. Even better if there's a seamless link to BART/Muni and Metro service at the two major metro areas.

"I've lived in Japan and they have a totally different system there and it is heavily subsidized by Japanese government. "
How long ago did you live in Japan? "Heavily subsidized by the Japanese government" was during the Kokutetsu era. The current Shinkansen operators are completely private exceot for Kyushu. And who says all trains have to stop at every station? The Shinkansen has about as many stops per station but they also have the "Nozomi" that doesn't stop at most of them.

Environmentalists? High Speed Rail in California actually HELPS the environment, let alone being an electric train. And so far, the train stops at cities, not in the middle of nowhere.
Plus, High Speed Rail is an alternate way to travel, we can't afford to buy more airports, more airplanes, more freeways if it costs 2x that of High Speed Rail if California's population extends greatly in the future.
High Speed Rail is NOT Amtrak, as Obama is using Amtrak across America for High Speed Rail.

No we don't need high speed rail and few will ride on it. It will need permanent subsidies. Very few people will want to ride "high speed" rail in US due to the population densidy being much less in US than Japan. I've lived in Japan and they have a totally different system there and it is heavily subsidized by Japanese government. The proposed project has so many stops that it won't be high speed. The environmentalists will file lawsuits to stop this projects and the money will go to them.

juscurious, in the future, we are reqiuired need high speed rail. Otherwise we would spend money for additional airports and free ways, which is twice than the cost of high speed rail. And a lot of people rides on high speed rail in Europe and Japan, benefiting their country, why not the US?
Also, Prop 1A in Nov. 4th, 08 already passed. Prop 1A of yesterday (May 19th, 09) did not pass. Both props are absolutely different.

i don't smoke either...well anymore at least...and i do see how it can be a new market and i do see that we will be making a little but more money...but at the end of the day...FDA will take control of it...they say thats good...cause the shit you buy now..."you don't know whats in it"...but fuck the FDA i don't trust them either. They're a bunch of crooks. but like i was saying...at the end of the day. its a extremely short term financial benefit on a extremely small scale.

look at it this way. people smoke marijuana anyway (not everyone but at least one in 5 smoke or have smoked or will smoke) its not as lethal as tobacco and unlike tobacco it can be eaten in and even used in foods and such. if it were to be taxed and sold our state will make good money out of it too
lol imagine McCannabis
ps: i don't smoke bud

PLEASE Yes on 1A. my family has been working on promoting this for 2 years now. Every evidence points to more clean and efficient transportation. Imagine a 2 hour and a half ride from LA to San Francisco instead of the conventional 4 by car. PLEASE. BRING THE BULLET TRAIN TO CALIFORNIA. WE DESERVE IT.
