This is my attempt at The Wind Cries Mary by Jimi Hendrix. Been working on the solo for a little while, find its tricky as usually I want to mute the string next to the main one I am hitting, in this tho theres lots of hitting two strings together and wanting notes on both.

Also the little riff between the verses gives me trouble, it just never sounds right to me :/

I might replace these web cam videos if I ever get a decent camera again

  • thanks again man, I really felt in the groove on this one, its a really hard song to cover in that you just don't realise how gentle a touch Hendrix had, and just how cleanly this song was played, I agree about the intro, I can hear individual strings ringing on the original, but had trouble reproducing it myself ;)

  • when you curl your thumb over for the hendrix style barre, are u muting the A string or playing it?

    great video btw

  • I play the A string with my ring finger, its like a normal barre chord but instead of a first finger barre the first finger plays the B and high E and the thumb plays the root, the other fingers are as per a normal E shaped barre chord, The high E sometimes gets muted but I make sure I play it for the "And the wind ... cries .. Nary" bit where the pinky comes down to do a pull of on it.

  • AWESOME!!! 5 stars, boy!!!

    One tip:

hang on to the chords as you do the lick that is the initial run up (first riff in the song), instead of the more staccato method that you are using. If my memory is correct, I think he hangs on those. I always try to pull as much as I can out of a note, unless it requires staccato.

an absolutely outstanding version. Kudos, bro.

  • Nice playing :D

  • Very nice man!

  • This was fantastic! Yet another song to learn... though this one looks like it could be pretty hard. You make it look easy though.

  • Yes, nice one.

  • nice:)

  • Good job!
