That really is an excellent room! WOW!
There is a newish hotel in Dubai which I think borrowed for the layout and motif of the fine rooms at this hotel. Truly cutting-edge!

Are there any plans to build a highway to Barrow? Would the residents want this or object? I suppose it would make imported goods cheaper

well, interesting - if you are interested in most Northernest cities - check Norilsk (here on youtube) which is at the same latitude as Barrow, albeit in Russian Siberia (and bigger actually 100 000 itselve and 200 000 with suburbs) and the biggest city of the world at this latitude - Murmansk in Russia (visited by many americans with convoys during ww2)- 307 000 population

Why 2 nights WITH a television, 1 night without television???
You cannot build a normal road on a permafrost base. This is why the Dalton Highway is a stone based road under constant repair.

I went to barrow on October and it was the most beautiful experience I've ever had!
PS: I stayed in that hotel too and I became friends with the receptionist. Did you go to the Osaka restaurant or to the Chinese restaurant next to the monument?

If you walk down the road from the hotel along the coast side you will come to a small restaurant about two blocks away. I do not know the name of the restaurant but the food was very good.

Barrow does not have very many hotel rooms. This room was small but clean and in good shape. The cost reflects where you are in the world. All products have to be shipped in and out via the trucking industry. As a result this room was $224.00 per night.

to correct you, trkolb, there are no roads leading into Barrow, therefore there can be no trucking industry. Everything is either flown in, or the larger items are brought in by barge in August.

My mistake, you are correct. I drove the Dalton highway from Fairbanks to Prudhoe bay and then flew into Barrow. Did not give much though to that answer, sorry.
