Here are some various smoke detectors in my house. The older ones are made by GE and rebranded by Black & Decker. They were made around the late 70's/early 80's. The new ones are First Alert SA67B smokes. Sorry for the crappy filming at first. It was in the basement.

  • your smoke detectors should be replaced every ten years.

  • I know. That's what I've been trying to tell my parents, but they never get around to it.

  • @Jibjub80 They recommend to replace them because the very small bit of radioactive material in ionization detectors (Americium) decays to where it isn't very effective because it no longer produces enough ions. Photoelectric detectors last longer because they use a light (I think a laser nowadays) instead but I am not sure of their recommended service life.

  • What's your favorite?

  • @thesdx Then why dont you do it if they keep forgetting to do it? i replaced the old sears that used to be up in our living room with a nighthawk, and since its not working properly im going to have to replace it AGAIN! lol

  • @hyperbaricchicken101 You are so dumb.He said right in the comment that I was correct.I hope you enjoy spamming smoke detector videos all day.I have blocked and reported you.

  • They say to replace the detectors every 10 years, but I wonder if this is really necessary. I think the older ones were built more solidly than many of the newer models, as quality is starting to go to crap in this country, not just for smoke alarms, but for many household appliances. For example, I had a refrigerator which crapped out after about 7 years. A fridge built 30 years ago would probably be built to LAST 30 years.
