Yes, i have finally concluded that my dog Tobi has OCD, obsessive compulsive disorder.
every time he starts to eat his food, he will repetitively scratch his nose on the carpet over and over again as you can see in the video. Now im no dog expert, but this seems to be a compulsive behavior, or am i wrong? Does your dog do this?

  • Mine doesnt do that but i think he has OCD my mom doesnt agree but what do u think?...he takes every piece of food out of the bowl one by one drops it on the floor and then eats it although he has started to eat out of the bowl now but he also will nibble on blankets and edges of couches and beds for no reason everyday all the time

  • @Tri3Face Tobi also nibbles on blankes and shirts, one reason im tinking is hyperactive dogs do this, since they want to play all the time, this relieves stress and keeps them occupied, OCD can be the cause,,,im guessing your dog is also very hyper and overly playful ? as for the food, try changing the bowl, is it plastic or metal ?

  • Mine does the same.. when he finishes eating go go to my bed! And the he scratches his nose :-)

  • @MsArabelka would love to see a video or some picture of your pup

  • When dogs have plenty to eat, they try to bury their food to save it for later. What you're seeing is him trying to nose "dirt" over his food. Then he looks, can still see the food so he keeps trying. It's instinctive behavior. Ours takes kibble to corners and does the same thing.

  • makes sense but what do you mean by " have plenty to eat"?

  • sweet dog.. so sad :( hope he gets treated and becomes fine

  • somone spilt crack on the floor

  • I''m a canine behaviourist and have come across many compulsive behaviours but I'd say that this is a food allergy. Common for dogs to rub their noses or eyes or chew their feet during or after eating when there is something that is irritating to them. He will keep going back because he is still hungry bless him, I'd get your vet to do an allergy test and change his food

  • @dazinater there is no attempt to bury going on here, he is merely rubbing his nose.. if he was digging or watching for potential threats to his bowl, maybe.

  • Guys thats not ocd, my dog has ocd and she does that too but i know exactly what it is, thats your dog trying to bury its food cu its not ready to eat it but is scared to leave it in case its taken away if you put a blanket near by the dog will pick up the blanket and do that with it over the food too. its like a natural instinct to bury it but dont comprehend they have nothing to bury it will. My dog will get so violent with it she sometimes cuts herself on things

  • @wickedinsight

By plenty to eat Wally means that the dog gets fed enough food every day so he doesn't ever feel hungry, he feels like he is already full but here's more food still left over, better save it so just in case I don't get any more food today I will have this left over... just in case.

  • @wickedinsight yeah he does want to play a lot of the time but he's not really hyperactive since he loves to sleep half the day but i can see that as being a reason why he would do that and yeah we have changed his bowl it's now plastic and he is a lil better with that, like i said he is actually eating out of it now sometimes but before it was a metal bowl and he would do it everytime.
