UKULELE SAFARI JAPAN - KAMATETSU

a shared song with the incredible KAMATETSU, one of the world's greatest ukulele strummers!

"Washington Square"

recorded at Yoyogi Park in September 2008
his live performances are from our Safari Launch at Bar Hikorocku back in March 2008

Kamatetsu is very respected and quite famous in Japan as a player and educator...
he wrote a very popular instructional book called "Zjaka Solo" (or "Ja-ka" - like the sound his strumming makes), and various other publications and DVDs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2qsw5FF-dk
despite this he is relatively unknown outside Japan

we are very lucky to know Mr. Kamatestsu, not only because he is such a mindblowing player, but also because he's such a great guy - and he's ALWAYS smiling!
we're really grateful to him for being part of the safari and for his support of us and the project!

Correction: the publisher of JAKA SOLO is Rittor, not "Nitto", as subtitled...

*Next up is more from Europe - The European Ukulele Festival in Germany, and a visit to the Aquila string factory in Italy*

  • Thank you Alan!

The (shared) song is called "Washington Square", made famous by The Village Stompers in 1963...

  • I showed this video to the kids in my ukulele class last Tuesday.

  • Haha! Great - what'd they think?

  • 特にワシントン広場の調和が素晴らしいです。

    音も優しい。

Harmony in Washington Square is wonderful. Sound very gentle.

  • Thanks Shigeto-san!

  • fucking unbelievable, amazing...

you are the best ukulele player.

  • unbelievable. very good.

but i prefer the slowly, hawaiaan songs.

  • i noticed this, most japanese ukulele players likes to use the soprano size and i love it, it is the standard sound for ukulele

  • Wonderful. (as usual)

    But what is this song?
