Photographer Roger Lemoyne travelled to Haiti, the nation with the highest rates of infant and maternal mortality in the Western hemisphere, to meet a group of midwives who are helping to improve the survival rates for expectant mothers and their babies. In this exclusive audio slideshow, he takes us inside the hospitals and mobile clinics where these amazing midwives are working miracles every day. This reportage first appeared in the May 2009 Chatelaine issue as "Safe Passage".
This remarkable hospital in the small town of Milot in Haiti was first founded by religious brothers from Quebec in the 1960's. It is now supported by the CRUDEM Foundation. For more information please visit www.crudem.org

  • Beautiful video. Every child deserves to grow up with a mother and every mom deserves to experience the joys of motherhood safely. Mother's are so dang important. If anyone wants to offer a little video gift to their mom and for the health of mothers everywhere, check out the "Prayers for Our Mothers" project that I've started on my channel.

Everyone who sees this video should make one and cherish all the mothers always.

  • That was beautiful! I cried watching this...thanx 4 sharing

  • Wonderful video about a serious problem in a part of the world largely ignored. 1200 university trained midwives are needed in Haiti and there are only about 150. The university cannot turn them out fast enough. Midwives for Haiti is trying to provide more skilled birth attendants by training auxilliares for 9 months at St. Therese Hospital in Hinche. Our third class of 12 students began in Nov 2009. They are being trained by 2 Haitian midwives and volunteer midwives from the US.

  • EXCELLENT WORK MY FRIEND!!!
