David Orr, Cook County Clerk, was the featured speaker Monday, March 16, 2009, at the 49th Ward Democratic Offices. It was billed as a "no holds barred" discussion of current political topics. Five of the seven activists who were arrested on Valentine's Day in his Vital Records Office, together with other gay activists, attended to ask how he plans to demonstrate through actions his professed support for equal marriage rights. After talking about the exciting period of change we are living in, and how courageous Obama was during the campaign to not wear a flag pin in the early days as a matter of principle, and how it almost cost him the election, I asked him if he could take a similar symbolic stand and do something to further the cause of equal rights for the LGBT Community. This is his response. We want to know who the supposed "leaders" of our movement are here in Chicago who believe that now is not the time to push for marriage equality. Come out and debate the people who are putting their hearts and souls and lives on the line in this cause!
Boo to the minister. God created men and women to be people of God not heterosexuals.
