As BBC1 comes out of a trade test junction (coming near to the end of To Break A Record), viewers in the London area can seethis interval which leads into Play School, complete with the BBC1 globe of the time. Enjoy!!!!

  • I remember the afternoon repeat showing of PlaySchool during this time, very well. Living where I did then, trade test transmissions ran for most of the afternoon until around 3.55, (a little later in the summer months, as I recall), and there was a News Bulletin from. 'Look North', prior to the start of playschool. I would watch with anticipation the number countdown on the test card until programmes began.

  • @JFredUK It was 3.52/30 or 4.17/30 when the testcard faded to black.

  • If it was genuine, it would have been on BBC2, and even on the odd occasion it was on BBC1 there would have still have been a 30-second clock into the programme.

  • @quizman1967 The morning transmission was actually repeated on BBC1 in the afternoon as part of children's programmes but was introduced by the globe rather than the clock. In those days the continuity announcer would have been responsible for linking all the children's output as Phillip Schofield did not begin Children's BBC until September 1985.

  • C williams you say you lived in London when you grew up do you get any strange music before playschool like in the music that was in the Midlands before the Midlands news and Playschool example tv ark on bbc midlands via news page

  • Yes, apparently the music from Roger Roger was used in the London area whilst the regional news bulletins were shown because the London area were very poorly served until 1985 when London Plus was created by BBC South East.

  • That BBC1 logo is not quite right: the announcer was too amateur for it to be a real broadcast, and poor sound. Why couldn't we have a genuine video?

  • this is a total mock, announcer, bbc1 holdong card lettering etc, etc.

  • German, I think you may be a bit confused there.

BBC1 did use the ======BBC1======= style for there holding slide style from 1975 to 1985.

It is quite strange they did this though, as this style was not used by BBC until BBC2 used it in there first ever computer generated ident. BBC1 did not use this style till 1981, but once, there was a still BBC1 school diamonds ident with that style of BBC1 logo beneath the diamond.

  • Well, as I used to live in the London area during my childhood, the London area never used to have its own regional news slot which is what was reflected in this video, but you are right the other regions used to insert their regional news bulletins in this slot.
