@taiken The FDJ was based off of Komsomol, not Hitler Jugend. The use of mass organizations was also far more prevalent in the GDR, e.g. some people belonged to 5 or more.
The GDR, although it wasn't paradise, had no unemployment, no inflation, generous social welfare, an overall better cultural life and better educational opportunities for all. Obviously it was poorer than West Germany, but there is still a lot of nostalgia for it within the former borders of the GDR.

@taiken Hitler took power in 1933. The Bolsheviks took power in Russia in 1917. The Fascists and Nazis copied the Bolsheviks in terms of organization, hence the usage of mass organizations, the leading role of the Party (although in Fascist states it was more focused on the leader and the state), the extensive use of youth organizations, etc. Calling the GDR a state which attempted to do a "cheap copy" of Nazism is ridiculous.
