Medals were based on AA and compulsory scores? In Barcelona, team medals were based on Comp IA and IB scores, AA medals based only on AA scores, and EF medals only on EF scores.

  • Medals were awarded based on the AA and compulsory scores.

To somewhat give you the wiki quote: The compulsories were routines that were developed and choreographed by the FIG .Every gymnast performed the same exercises. The dance and tumbling skills of compulsory routines were generally less difficult than those of the optionals, but emphasised technique, form and execution. For this reason, many gymnasts and coaches considered compulsories more challenging to perform than optionals.

  • I have recently been watching some older gymnastics and I keep coming across the "compulsories". Could someone please explain what this is because I am soooo confused.

  • @evoandy I totally agree with you. It put everyone on a level playing field when it came to qualifying for the all around, if you hit you advance, if you don't, then well....you don't.

  • john tesh is an ass

  • @luv4cookie1 no kidding!

  • @lostlyrarose didnt deserve that score

  • @lostlyrarose She scored a 9.85, I believe.

  • what did she score on this? 9.8?

  • @rnjen2b1 me too.... women's gymnastics started to look VERY different after the '96 olympics. I Think the compulsories forced them to really work on their basics, and definitely helped them achieve a higher level of polish on their more difficult routines.
