A walk along a stretch of Old Mill Road, which once was a place known as "Monsterland".
In the 40's or 50's, a guy stalls out near the railroad bridge, and saw a monster come out of the woods, and started to violently shake his car, and fled for his life. This guy was drunk at the time, but his story, and many others about weird noises in this area, started the Monsterland craze.
In the late 80's, a developer created Legate Hill Estates, which was a 100 home development, which straddles the railroad tracks, and more recently, a condo complex was built on the other side. Some say that WAL*MART is in Monsterland as well, others say that it's not far enough into the "woods" like the bridge, to be part of it.
Near the end, we examine the graffiti in the small tunnel, and walk the last few hundred feet of what used to be a thrilling place.

    No problem.

It doesn't have the ambiance since Legit Hill Estates was built in the late 80's.

    Shut your mouth!

Do you even live near the bridge?

I am so sick of hearing about people complaining about the horn honking.

If they put traffic lights in honking louder and if they block it off im driving down there just to honk it is a quick way to get on to the highway. It better not get ruined because of crying little homeowners that bought the home and didnt think about the tunnel.

  • @charrb62

You can't win, because not only do I hear many car horns, I also hear tons of "Gangstas" blasting their stereos, police, fire, and EMT sirens on a never-ending basis.

Complaining about some car horns during does not hold a candle to being near downtown.

  • @georgef551

Do you own a home? How would you like it if I came past your place 80+ times per day and blasted my car horn? I will tell you how you would like it - you wouldn't.

That is what it is like for the neighborhood since Walmart moved in.

Has it ever occurred to you to contact your city councilor to complain about the peril that the city has put you in by creating the situation with the RR bridge?

  • People that barrel through the underpass are the ones that wail on their horns.

If you pull up with caution, look through, and proceed with caution there is no need for the horn.

Perhaps you could contact your city councilor and complain about the situation that the CITY created.

  • @charrb62

So head-on collisions where people get hurt, or killed, is no big deal, so long as the snobs here get peace and quiet.

At NIGHT, though, High Beams are enough. Horns at that time is a bad idea.

  • Stop honking your horn when you go through. People live near the bridge! How would you like people incessantly honking their horns near your home?!
