Underwater Vid of our Canoe Trip Down Juniper Run in Florida

We had bought an underwater digital cam recently in 2008, and decided to use it on this recent trip to Florida in June '08. The above-water canoe trip is awesome enough... but to see what's actually under the surface of the water is equally as impressive. Mostly we saw minnows and other small fish, and plenty of eel grass. It would have been spectacular to have seen a submerged gator quietly and motionless awaiting our passage by. But, alas, we saw none while recording, but we did happen to see two small gators while on this pass down Juniper that we didn't manage to record. One was on the bank, just feet from our canoe (I nearly pissed myself when I saw it eyeing my legs dangling over the bow of the canoe in the water!), and another was headed upstream. He saw us coming downstream about the same time we spotted him, and he then quietly submerged himself, and then stayed in the same spot on the bottom of the run as we passed over. He then resurfaced after we had passed by, and contined upstream. We could literally have reached down into the water and felt him. So... who now wants to go canoeing in the wild Florida and go sightseeing for gators? Don't everybody jump at once! Recorded 6/11/08. In the vid, I am in front, in the bow. My roommate is actually doing the recording. His vids are not nearly as smooth and refined as mine, hence the herky-jerky-ness of the video.

I went on this trip and it was just too long! But while it lasted its was pretty cool to see everything

I am the one actually filming in the above video. I am originally from Florida, and have traveled that run alot. I've seen all sorts of wildlife along the run and in the campgrounds. As far as moccasins are concerned, I seen one a few years ago, but not on any recent trips. As for the alligator mentioned in description, I could have had the ultimate picture had I'd had the underwater camera in my hands while he was submerged. Gator's mentality is,if I go underwater,they can't see me.

Myakka..State Park has canoeing and kayaking the heavy infested gator waters..I don't like that kinda of kayaking, but my husband loved that sort of thing. Did you spot any water moccasins
